CBSE Class 12 Hindi Elective Syllabus 2020-21

In the CBSE Class 12 Hindi Elective Syllabus 2020-21, you will find many lessons which familiarize you with the outstanding work of famous writers. CBSE Class 12 Syllabus 2020-21 for Hindi Elective contains 4 sections or ‘Khand’ with each section having a significant weightage. Only if you are well versed with all the sections, you will score high in your Class 12 Hindi Elective Board Exam. ‘Khand Ka’ or section 1 deals with unseen passages (Apathit Gadyansh) of 16 marks, ‘Khand Kha’ that is section 2 deals with official Hindi and creative writing based on the book ‘Abhivyakti Aur Madhyam’ and has been allocated 20 marks. 

The third section or ‘Khand Ga’ having a weightage of 44 marks, is based on textbooks – ‘Antara Bhag 2’ (32 marks ) and ‘Antaraal Bhag 2’ (12 marks). The Chapters from Antara Part -2 are Yeh Deep Akela, Maine Dekha Ek Boond by Agyeya and Kavitt/Sawaiya by Keshavdas. ‘Khand Gha’ or section 4 contains hearing and oral tests along with project work. Hearing and oration have been allotted 10 marks, and the project work has also been allotted 10 marks.

CBSE Class 12 Hindi Elective Syllabus 2020-21: Chapter-wise

CBSE syllabus for Class 12 Hindi Elective consists of three books ‘Antara Bhag 2’, ‘Antaral Bhag 2’ and ‘Abhivyakti Aur Madhyam’. There are two sections in ‘Antra Bhag 2’ namely Kavita Khand (poetry section) and Gadya Khand (prose section). The poetry section is further divided into ‘Adunik’ and ‘Prachin’ sections. The Antral Bhag 2 Book has 4 chapters or full stories. The components of all the prescribed books published by NCERT are discussed in detail below –

CBSE Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Kavita Khand: Aadhunik

This part of the book contains work from 6 writers. There are two poems, each from one writer. They have been discussed below.

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Chapter 1: Jaishankar Prasad

The first two poems are by Jayshankar Prasad. Poem 1 ‘Carnelia ka geet’ is from the famous play ‘Chandragupta’ and is about Carnelia, who was the daughter of commander Seleucus. The second poem is about Devasena, who is the sister of Bandhu Verma, King of Malwa. This poem has been taken from the play ‘Skandagupta’. 

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Chapter 2: Suryakant Tripathi ‘Nirala’

The first poem from Nirala Ji’s pen composed here is ‘Geet Gaane Do’ which is a representation of a struggling soul who is not willing to end the struggle and is ready to keep going ahead. The second poem is ‘Saroj Smriti’ and is about the writer’s late wife and late daughter, Saroj. 

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Chapter 3: Sacchidanand Hiranand Vatsyayan ‘Agyeya’

‘Yeh Deep Akela’ by the poet depicts the feelings of a lonely person who has some pride issues but still wants to mingle with others. The second poem ‘Maine Dekha Ek Boond’ discusses how a drop of water loses its identity and gets lost when it gets separated from the big ocean. 

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Chapter 4: Kedarnath Singh

The first poem by the poet is ‘Banaras’ which describes the magnificence of the historical city Varanasi, also known as Banaras. The second poem ‘Disha’ is based on the psychology of children and lets us know that we can learn something from children also. 

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Chapter 5: Vishnu Khare

‘Ek Kam’ is the first poem taken from the poet’s collection. This is about the developing lifestyle in Indian society after freedom. It covers the socio-economic scenario along with the political scenario in India post freedom. The second poem ‘Satya’ tries to establish the value of truth using the characters from the famous Indian epic ‘Mahabharata’.

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Chapter 6: Raghuvir Sahay

‘Basant Aaya’ and ‘Todi’ are the two poems discussed here. The first one discusses how mechanical we have become when we do not feel the spring season by the change nature brings, but we depend on calendars to know that. In the later poem, the poet calls for people to break all the barriers and create something useful for life by human endeavours.

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Chapter 7: Tulsidas

This portion covers ‘Ramcharitmans’ and ‘Gitavali’ by the poet. The former one contains ‘Chaupai’, and ‘Doha’ from Ayodhya kand of Ramayana and the later one describes the departure of Lord Rama for exile and how mother Kaushalya is bereaved with the incident. Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Gadya Khand Chapter 1: ‘Premghan ki chaya Smriti’ by Ramchandra Shukla 

In this chapter, the writer discusses how he got interested in the Hindi language. Here he talks about how he got inspired by the writers Bhartendu and Premghan in a very interesting manner. This story is a short depiction of the writer’s personality development as well.

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Gadya Khand Chapter 2: ‘Sumirini Ke Manke’ Pandit Chandradhar Sharma Guleri

This is a collection of three short essays (a) Balak bach Gaya (b) Ghadi Ke Purze and (c) Dhele Chun Lo. The first one is about the right age for education. The second one depicts how religion is mostly guided by religious gurus, and the third one talks about the misconceptions and superstitions spread in our society.

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Gadya Khand Chapter 3: ‘Kaccha Chittha’ by Brajmohan Vyas

This is an autobiography of the writer. He has a large contribution in collecting things of archaeological importance in north India. This chapter describes all the metal idols, manuscripts, photographs and written treatise collected by him throughout his lifetime.

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Gadya Khand Chapter 4: ‘Samvadiya’ by Phanishwar Nath Renu

This story is very good and deeply writes up on human emotions. This discusses the very sensitive feelings of a woman such as sorrows, pain and distress. This story uses a lot of colloquial phrases to bring out the emotional saga of the main character of the story. 

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Gadya Khand Chapter 5: ‘Gandhi, Nehru and Yaser Arafat’ by Bhishm Sahani

The writer was a stalwart in Hindi literature, and the present story is an excerpt from his autobiography ‘Aaj Ke Ateet’. In this, the writer has collected all his experiences from teenage to adulthood based on his memory. This write up connects his life and the prime incidences of politics and patriotism from his time. 

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Gadya Khand Chapter 6: Stories by Asghar Wajahat

This portion consists of four stories by the writer, which are ‘Sher’, ‘Pehchan’, ‘Chaar Haath’ and ‘Saajha’. The first story emphasizes the virtue of trust over pieces of evidence. The second story is about a King who wanted his people to be unreactive. This story deals with the harmful effects of globalization and liberation. The third story reveals how the working class is dominated by a capitalist system. The last story discusses the worst scenario where a capitalist always looks for a farmer’s land after he has possessed the industries. 

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Gadya Khand Chapter 7: ‘Jahan koi wapasi nahin’ by Nirmal Verma

This story has been taken from travelogue ‘Dhundh Se Uthti Dhun’. Though it is a travelogue, it actually discusses the environmental issues caused by humans in the name of development. In the era of industrial development, how natural beauty is being destroyed, this chapter throws light on a few very touching instances. 

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Gadya Khand Chapter 8: ‘Yathasme Rochte Vishwam’ by Ramvilas Sharma

This essay has been taken from his collection of essays by the name of ‘Viram Chinha’. In this essay, he compares a poet with a butterfly and warns about workmanship. He points out here that literature provides mental peace to readers on the one hand and inspires towards progress, on the other hand. 

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Gadya Khand Chapter 9: ‘Doosra Devdas’ by Mamta Kalia

The story is set in the background of Har ki Poudi, Haridwar and describes the emotional turmoil in a young person. This tells the story of romantic feelings developed between the characters Sambhav and Paro. 

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antara Bhag 2 Gadya Khand Chapter 10: ‘Kutaj’ by Hazari Prasaad Dwidei 

Kutaj is a forest flower which grows in between dry stones of Himalayas. This essay is about the nature of this flower. Though this flower does not have any smell, neither is it very beautiful, but it is a symbol of life sustenance in difficult circumstances. 

CBSE Class 12 Hindi Elective Antaraal Bhag 2 Chapters Overview

Antaraal Bhag 2 is a collection of four thought-provoking stories making four different chapters. Those are discussed in detail below –

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antaraal Bhag 2 Chapter 1: ‘Surdas Ki Jhopdi’

This story is a beautiful story taken from the novel ‘Rangbhoomi’ by Premchand. This depicts that Surdas was diligent enough to have positivity about life in spite of being blind. A lady called Subhagi intimidated by her husband named Bhairon’s torture comes into Surdas’s hut to take refuge. Bhairon follows her but could not torture more because of Surdas’s interference. The angry Bhairon was further supported by Jagdhar, who was actually jealous of Surdas and also had bad intentions for Subhagi. Jagdhar steals Surdas’s money and sets his hut on fire. This story tells how Surdas was determined enough to rebuild his hut no matter how many people like Jagdhar burn it down.

Class 12 Hindi Elective Antaraal Bhag 2 Chapter 2: ‘Aarohan’

This chapter is a treatise on necessity, scope and use of mountaineering as a carrier option. This is written by Sanjeev. The writer has underlined the use of mountaineers in the current time and the problems faced during the course of this profession in everyday life. This chapter by Prabhash Joshi has been taken from a column named ‘Kagad Kaare’ from the paper Jansatta. In this chapter, the writer has described soil, rain, rivers, local life and culture of Malwa area. He also raises grave concerns over the present environmental conditions.
