CBSE Class 12 Maths Syllabus 2020-21 is designed to help you learn concepts like statistics, computation, measurement, operations, geometry and numbers. The syllabus aims to teach you the essential skills of calculation and organization that will further help you in higher studies and professional career. The Central Board of Secondary Education has defined the syllabus for Class 12 Maths subject in accordance with the emerging needs of the society.

## CBSE Syllabus for Class 12 Maths 2020-21: Chapter-wise

### CBSE Class 12 Maths Unit 1: Relations and Functions

The first unit of CBSE Class 12 Syllabus for Maths syllabus comprises 2 Chapters Relations and Functions and Inverse Trigonometric Functions. This unit has been allocated 8 marks in total. You must complete this unit in 30 periods.

**Chapter 1: Relations and Functions**– In this chapter, you will be learning about relations, different types of relations, the equivalence of relations and different types of functions such as one-on-one, onto, and composite functions.

**Chapter 2: Inverse Trigonometric Functions**– Here, you will be learning about graphs of inverse trigonometric functions, different properties of inverse trigonometric functions, along with their domain, range and other important attributes.

### CBSE Class 12 Maths Unit 2: Algebra

CBSE Board Class 12 Maths Unit 2 comprises 2 Chapters Matrices and Determinants. Both these chapters are allocated 25 periods each and the whole unit has a weightage of 10 marks. Chapter-wise marks are not allocated in any of the units as CBSE encourages you to study every chapter equally.

**Chapter 3: Matrices-** This chapter is crucial as knowledge of matrices will be helpful in different areas such as business, sales, cost estimation, etc. In this chapter, you will study the various properties of matrices, elementary row and column operations in matrices, invertible matrices, transpose of a matrix and identity matrix.

**Chapter 4: Determinants-** This chapter is a continuation of the previous chapter of Matrices. You will study what are determinants, their properties, how determinants can be used to calculate the area of a triangle, and in solving a system of linear equations.

### CBSE Class 12 Maths Unit 3: Calculus

CBSE Board Class 12 Maths Unit 3 comprises 5 Chapters: Continuity and Differentiability, Application of Derivatives, Integrals, Applications of Integrals and Differential Equations. This is the biggest unit with a weightage of 35 marks and is to be studied in 80 periods. It holds maximum marks out of all the units.

**Chapter 5: Continuity and Differentiability- **You must have studied the Differentiation of Polynomial and Trigonometric Functions in CBSE Class 11. This chapter is a continuation of those concepts where you will learn how to differentiate inverse trigonometric functions. You will study two main theorems here given by Rolle and Lagrange.

**Chapter 6: Application of Derivatives-** This chapter deals with applications of derivatives where you will learn how to determine the rate of change of quantities, find the minimum and maximum values of a function and equations of tangents and normals to a curve.

**Chapter 7: Integrals-** In this chapter, you will learn how to find a function when its derivative is given to you. You will also study how to find the area under a graph of a function. Basic properties of integrals and the fundamental theorem of calculus are also included in the CBSE Class 12 Maths syllabus of this chapter.

**Chapter 8: Applications of Integrals-** Based on your understanding of the previous chapter, you will learn how to find the area of different geometrical figures such as circles, parabolas, and ellipses in this chapter.

**Chapter 9: Differential Equations-** In this chapter, you will learn what are differential equations and how to find solutions to a differential equation. This topic holds various applications in Physics, Economics, Chemistry and Biology.

### CBSE Class 12 Maths Unit 4: Vectors and Three-Dimensional Geometry

Unit 4 of CBSE Class 12 Maths Syllabus comprises 2 Chapters: Vectors and Three-Dimensional Geometry. Both these chapters are allocated time of 15 periods each. The unit holds a weightage of 14 marks.

**Chapter 10: Vectors- **In this chapter, you will understand what are vector quantities, how to find the position vector of a point, geometrical interpretation of vectors, and scalar and cross product of vectors. These concepts will be very useful for higher education in engineering and technology.

**Chapter 11: Three-Dimensional Geometry- **Based on the vector algebra that you have studied in the previous chapter, here you will learn how it can be applied to three-dimensional geometry. You will be introduced to topics like direction cosines and direction ratios. You will also learn about cartesian and vector equations of a line and how to find the shortest distance between two lines using these concepts.

### CBSE Class 12 Maths Unit 5: Linear Programming

This unit of CBSE Class 12 Syllabus of Maths consists of only 1 Chapter – Linear Programming. CBSE recommends to complete this unit in 20 periods and has allocated 5 marks to this unit.

**Chapter 12: Linear Programming –** This chapter is a continuation of the concepts of linear inequalities and system of linear equations in two variables that you have studied in CBSE Class 11. In this chapter, you will learn how these concepts can be applied to solve real-world problems. You will also learn how to optimise the problems of linear programming so that you can maximise the resource utilization, minimize profits etc.

### CBSE Class 12 Maths Unit 6: Probability

The last unit of CBSE syllabus for Class 12 Maths consists of only 1 Chapter – Probability. This unit holds a weightage of 8 marks and it to be completed in 30 periods.

**Chapter 13: Probability – **You are already aware of the concept of probability as you have studied it in earlier classes. In this chapter of CBSE Class 12 Maths Syllabus, you will learn about conditional probability. Further, you will learn topics like Bayes’ theorem, independence of events, the probability distribution of random variables, mean and variance of a probability distribution, and Binomial distribution.
