Types of Equilibrium

In your previous classes, you would have studied that equilibrium refers to a state when the net force which acts on a body is null. In this chapter of DC Pandey Mechanics Part 1, you will learn an advanced version of this concept and the different kinds of equilibrium.

  1.   3. Neutral Equilibrium – in this case, when a body is displaced from its equilibrium position, it neither has the tendency to restore to its initial position nor can it move away from it. The potential energy in equilibrium position remains constant even after being displaced from its initial position. In this case, when a body is displaced from equilibrium, the position of its centre of gravity remains in the same position.
