## Important Topics for HC Verma Concepts of Physics Part-2 Solutions Chapter 33: Electric Current

Joule’s Law of Heating

The heat that is produced because of the current flow in an electric wire is defined in Joules. The mathematical expression of Joule’s law is described below.

Joule’s First Law

The joule’s first law states that the connection between heat formed by flowing electric current through a conductor.

Q = I2 R T

where,

• Q represents the amount of heat
• I represent the electric current
• R represents the amount of electric resistance in the conductor
• T represents the time

Seebeck Effect

The Seebeck effect refers to an effect in which a temperature variance between two different electrical conductors or semiconductors generates a voltage difference between the two materials.

Peltier Effect

The Peltier effect is the occurrence of heating or cooling at a captivated junction of two diverse conductors and is named after French physicist Jean Charles Athanase Peltier. He revealed it in 1834.

Thomson Effect

Thomson effect refers to the evolution or absorption of heat when electric current permits through a circuit collected of a single substance that has a temperature variance along its length. This transmission of heat is superimposed on the mutual production of heat-related to the electrical resistance to currents in conductors.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is the transmission of a direct electric current through an ionic material that is either molten or dissolved in an appropriate solvent, creating chemical reactions at the electrodes and decomposition of the substance.

Faraday’s law of induction is a simple law of electromagnetism forecasting how a magnetic field will interrelate with an electric circuit to generate an electromotive force. This law is termed as electromagnetic induction.
