Class 9

Lakhmir Singh Physics Class 9 Chapter 1 – Motion

Motion is the chapter 1 of Lakhmir Singh and Manjit Kaur Class 9 Physics book. Motion is defined as a change of position. It can be described in terms of the distance moved or the displacement. The important topics covered in this chapter are Distance, Displacement, Speed, Velocity and Acceleration.

Total Number of Questions

There are a total of 10 exercises (19,20,21,22,39,40,41,42,43,44)  in Physics Chapter 1 and each exercise on an average contains 7-8 questions related to Distance, Displacement, Speed, Velocity etc. These questions are a mixture of choosing the correct answer, numerical and graphs.

Lakhmir Singh Physics Class 9 Chapter 2 – Force and Laws of Motion

There are three Laws of motion are explained in Chapter 2 of Class 9 Physics book.

• The first law of motion –  An object continues to be in a state of rest or of uniform motion along a straight line unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
• The second law of motion – The rate of change of momentum of an object is proportional to the applied unbalanced force in the direction of the force.
• Third law of motion – To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction and they act on two different bodies.

Total Number of Questions

There are a total of 7 exercises (55,56,57,74,75,76,77) in Lakhmir Singh Class 9 Physics Chapter 2 and each exercise on an average contains 10-12 questions related to 3 Laws of motion. These questions contain numericals and simple questions.

Lakhmir Singh Physics Class 9 Chapter 3 – Gravitation

In the chapter 3 the process of gravity and its forces are explained. It is told that the law of gravitation states that the force of attraction between any two objects is proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.

The law applies to objects anywhere in the universe. Such a law is said to be universal. The important topics covered in this chapter are Law of Gravitation, Force of Gravity, Weight and Density.

Total Number of Questions

There are a total of 11 exercises  (100,101,102,103,104,123,124,125,126,127,128) and each exercise on an average contains 18-20 questions. These questions are simple questions as well as numericals.

Lakhmir Singh Physics Class 9 Chapter 4 – Work and Energy

In the chapter 4 the concept of work and energy is explained in detail.

• Work – Work done on an object is defined as the magnitude of the force multiplied by the distance moved by the object in the direction of the applied force. The unit of work is joule: 1 joule = 1 newton × 1 metre.
• Energy – The energy possessed by a body due to its change in position or shape is called the potential energy. The gravitational potential energy of an object of mass m raised through a height, h from the earth’s surface is given by m g h.

Total Number of Questions

There are a total of 9 exercises (145,146,147,148,149,162,163,164,165) and each exercise on an average contains 24-25 questions. Most of the questions are Numerical based.

Lakhmir Singh Physics Class 9 Chapter 5 – Sound

Chapter 5 explains that:

• Sound is produced due to vibration of different objects.
• Sound travels as a longitudinal wave through a material medium.
• Sound travels as successive compressions and rarefactions in the medium.

Total Number of Questions

There are a total of 9 exercises (185,186,187,188,206,207,208,209,210) and each exercise on an average contains 28-30 questions and most of the questions are numericals and choose the correct answer.
