Important Topics for NCERT Exemplar Class 10 Science Solutions Chapter 12: Electricity

  • Electric Current

Electric current is known as the flow which takes place in the electric charge. Moving Electrons carries Electric current through a conductor. Electric Current can also flow in the opposite direction of the movement of electrons by the process of convection.

  • Potential Difference

To move a unit charge from one point to another, the amount of work done is known as the potential difference. The SI unit of potential difference is Volt (V).

V = W/Q

  • Ohm’s Law

According to Ohm’s Law, the potential difference between the 2 points of a metallic conductor is directly proportional to the amount of current which is being passed through the circuit, the temperature is constant.

V = IR, where R is a constant which is known as the resistance of the given metal.

  • Electric Fuse

In case of a short circuit or overloading,  a safety device is used to protect the electrical appliances. This device is known as an electric fuse. It is either made up of pure tin or an alloy of copper and tin. It is used for safety because it has a very low melting point. Moreover, an electric fuse has a higher capacity of carrying current as compared to that of the appliances.

  • Factors on which Resistance of a conductor depends

The  resistance of a conductor which is uniformly metallic is:

  • Directly proportional to the given length of the conductor.
  • Inversely proportional to the area of the given cross-section.
  • Directly proportional to the temperature.
  • Depends on the nature of the material which is being used.

Exercise Discussion of NCERT Exemplar Class 10 Science Solutions Chapter 12: Electricity

  • This chapter consists of 35 questions in total that are of various difficulty levels.
  • The initial 18 questions are multiple-choice questions which cover topics like finding the maximum or minimum current, identifying the factors on which the electrical resistivity depends, etc.
  • The next 10 questions are short answer questions in which you need to check the electric circuits and find errors. In some questions, you also have to find the maximum or minimum current flow.
  • The last 7 questions are long answer questions in which you need to justify your answer in detail. The questions ask you to state the ohm’s law, verifying the law, explaining electrical resistivity, etc.
