Important Topics for NCERT Chemistry Exemplar Solutions Class 11 Chapter 14 – Environmental Chemistry

Environmental Pollution

Environmental pollution is termed as the contamination of the physical and biological constituents of the earth system to such a level that normal environmental procedures are unfavourably affected.

Pollutants

A pollutant is a material or energy presented into the atmosphere that has unwanted effects or unfavourably affects the usefulness of a resource.

Troposphere

The troposphere is the bottom-most layer of Earth’s atmosphere and is also where closely all weather conditions occur. It covers 75% of the atmosphere’s mass and 99% of the total mass of water vapour and aerosols.

Stratosphere

The stratosphere is the second main layer of the atmosphere of Earth. It is located just above the troposphere, and below the mesosphere.

Oxides of Sulphur

The two common oxides of sulfur include sulfur dioxide, SO2, and sulfur trioxide, SO3. These are created by the reaction of oxygen and sulfur dioxide in the presence of compounds, sulfur trioxide exhausts actively in contact with moist air and softens in water, releasing much heat and developing sulfuric acid.

Global Warming

Global warming refers to the continuous rise of the regular temperature of the Earth’s climate system and has been confirmed by direct temperature measurements and also by measurements of several effects of the warming.

Greenhouse Effect

The procedure by which radioactivity from an atmosphere of the planet heats up the surface of the planet to a temperature above what it would be without this atmosphere is referred to as the Greenhouse effect.

Water Pollution

Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies, generally as a consequence of human activities. It results when pollutants are presented into the natural environment.
