Important Topics for NCERT Physics Exemplar Solutions Class 11 Chapter 14 – Oscillations

Oscillations

Oscillation states to any periodic motion moving at a distance about the balanced position and repeating itself over and over for a particular period of time. For example, the Oscillation side by side of a spring, the Oscillation up and down of spring, and the Oscillation swinging side by side of a pendulum.

Periodic and Oscillatory Motions

The oscillatory motion refers to a motion in which to and fro measure is done about its mean in a fixed interval of time whereas periodic motion refers to the motion in which motion is repeated periodically, it is not required to have to and fro measure in periodic motion.

Simple Harmonic Motion

Simple harmonic motion is always considered to be oscillatory. For example, the motion of the hands of a clock, the motion of the wheels of a car, etc.

Uniform Circular Motion

Uniform circular motion can be defined as the motion of an object in a circular motion at a fixed speed. As an object moves in a circular motion, it is continually changing its direction. In all cases, the object is moving in a curve to the circle.

Damped Simple Harmonic Motion

When the motion of an oscillator decreases due to an external force, the oscillator and its motion are considered to be damped. These periodic motions of slowly reducing amplitude are known as damped simple harmonic motion.

The Energy in Simple Harmonic Motion

The energy in simple harmonic motion refers to the amount of its kinetic energy and potential energy. Therefore, the energy in the simple harmonic motion of an element is directly proportional to its mass and square of the frequency of oscillations.

Force Law for Simple Harmonic Motion

The force performing simple harmonic motion is proportional to the displacement and is always engaged towards the centre of motion. The simple harmonic motion refers to the motion performed by an element subject to a force, which is proportional to the displacement of the element and is directed towards the mean position.
