- Atoms – Atoms are the smallest unit of the chemical element. It is made up of three tiny particles: protons, electrons, and neutrons, etc. Protons are positively charged particles, electrons are negatively charged and neutrons do not contain any electrical charges at all.
- Electron orbits – Electrons occupy shells to revolve around the nucleus of an atom. They can revolve in any direction but in a limited area or orbits. Each orbit has a name. Each shell can contain a fixed number of electrons. The first shell contains 2 electrons. The second shell contains 8 electrons and so on. The general formula for the nth shell is 2 (n^2) electrons.
- Rutherford atomic model – Rutherford atomic model is also known as the nuclear model. Why the nuclear model? This model states that the atoms are mostly in a hollow space, electrons revolving around the positively charged nucleus in fixed orbits.
- Bohr’s model of hydrogen atom – Bohr’s model of hydrogen atom states that there is a positively charged nucleus comprises (protons, neutrons) and negatively charged particle electrons revolving around the nucleus in different energy levels. These levels are termed as shells. He assumes that electrons revolve in different circular orbits and that orbits with a certain radii were allowed This produces the absorption spectrum.
