Plant Tissue 

Plant tissues are a collection of cells that are grouped into various plant tissue systems in order to perform certain specialized functions. Simple Permanent Tissues

  • Sclerenchyma: they are known to provide strength and support to the plants.
  • Collenchyma: Similar to Parenchyma, these tissues provide mechanical support to the plant structure.

Complex Permanent Tissues

  • Xylem: Also known as the Xylem Parenchyma, the Xylem tissue is known to store the food and facilitate the conduction of water.
  • Phloem: Its main function is to transport the food from the leaves to the other parts of the plant.

The Tissue System

  • Epidermal Tissue System: This tissue system forms the exterior of the plant body. The epidermal tissue system consists of the stomata, epidermal cells and appendages.
  • Ground Tissue System: The ground tissue system consists of permanent tissues and is located between the epidermis and vascular bundles.
  • Vascular Tissue System: The vascular tissue system consists of complex tissues. Vascular bundles in this tissue system are of two types namely open and closed. The phloem and the xylem together form the vascular bundles.

Dicotyledonous and Monocotyledonous Roots

The innermost layer of the dicotyledonous root is called the endodermis. The epidermis consists of the unicellular root hairs from its outermost layer. 

The structure of the monocotyledonous roots is similar to dicotyledonous roots. However, the number of xylem bundles present is fewer in comparison to dicotyledonous roots.

Dicotyledonous and Monocotyledonous Stems

The vascular bundles in dicotyledonous stems are arranged in a ring and their pith is concentrated at the core of the stem. They are more complex than monocotyledonous stems. The vascular bundles in monocotyledonous stems are scattered throughout the stem.

Dicotyledonous and Monocotyledonous Leaves 

The internal structure of both Dicotyledonous and Monocotyledonous leaves include the epidermis, mesophyll and the vascular bundles.
