Then, in the next part of the chapter, Charley describes how he reached the third level and what he found there. He says that he reached in the year 1894. He explains how people there were dressed, so the money was different, there were old-style bills. Charley wanted to buy two tickets to Galesburg, Illinois, where his grandfather used to live. Charley described it as a beautiful place with huge trees, frame houses, lawns and beautiful weather. But, Charley didn’t have money that was used at that time so he came back home.

Charley was thinking about the third level all the time even when he returned from there. He wanted to take his wife to Galesburg. So, he exchanged some of his new money and got old-style money from the bank. But, he was never able to find the third level again.
- Charley receives a letter from Sam
In the last section of the chapter, something strange happens with Charley. One night when he was looking at his stamp collection, he found an envelope there that he had never seen before. It was addressed to his grandfather in Galesburg. The letter was written by Sam and he wrote that he had found the third level and is now in Galesburg. He said that he refused to believe Charley but it is true and he is very happy there. He asked Charley to keep looking for the third level and asked him to come there with his wife. Sam was Charley’s psychiatrist.
