- Rate of Change of Quantities

Equation of the tangent at (x0, y0) to the curve y = f (x) is given by y – y0 = f ʹ(x0)(x – x0). The equation of the normal to the curve y= f (x) is given by y – y0 f ʹ(x0) + (x – x0) = 0. This portion mentions some particular cases too.
In this section, you will learn how to use differentials to approximate values of certain quantities. The differential of x, denoted by dx, is defined by dx = Δx. Also, the differential of y, denoted by dy, is defined by dy = fʹ(x) dx or dy = (dy/dx) Δx.
