NCERT Solutions for Class 6th Science Chapter 6 Changes Around Us Important Topics

Our NCERT Solutions for Class 6 Science Chapter 6-Changes Around Us, help you learn different kinds of changes around us, like night turning into day, the season shifting from summer and rainy to winter, cooking of food, ice melting, growth of our body, and rusting of iron.

This chapter tells us about all changes that occur in our day to day life occur because of a reason. For example, changes in the weather occur because of the sun’s heat, and a day changes into a night due to the earth rotation around the sun.

Some important topics covered in NCERT Class 6 Science Chapter 6 have been listed below.

  • Classification of Changes
  • Changes on the basis of speed

In this part of CBSE Class 6 Science Syllabus, you will learn about the changes that occur slowly and quickly. Some examples of slow changes that you will learn in Class 6 Science Air Around Us include Curdling of milk and one full rotation of the earth around the sun. Some examples of fast changes are Burning of a paper and blinking of eyes and sneezing.

  • Changes on the basis of reversibility

In this part of CBSE NCERT Class 6 Science Chapter 6, you will learn about the changes happening around us that are based on reversibility. It teaches you about both reversible changes and irreversible changes. Reversible changes are where the initial substance can be obtained back by reversing the action. Irreversible changes where the original substance cannot be brought back to its initial format. Following are examples of reversible changes and irreversible changes.

Examples of Reversible Change

Melting of Ice-Ice changes to water on heating and water can change to ice on cooling. Boiling of Water-When water is heated and when it reaches the boiling point, it turns to vapour (gaseous) state. This can also be reversed.

Examples of irreversible changes

Ripening of fruits, blooming of flowers, cooking of food, baking of a cake, and burning of a paper are all irreversible changes.

  • Changes on the basis of the time interval

In this portion of NCERT Class 6 Science Chapter 6 – Changes Around Us, you will learn about the cyclic repetition of changes that occur after a fixed interval of time. Some Changes around us based on time interval have been given below.

Periodic changes: In NCERT CBSE Class 6 Science Chapter 6, you will learn about the changes which occur in a periodic manner. For example,  changes in climate are periodic changes.

Non-periodic changes: In NCERT CBSE Class 6 Science Chapter 6, you will learn about the changes that may occur at any point in time, without any periodicity. For example, Natural disasters like cyclones, volcanic eruptions and floods.

  • Changes on the basis of composition

In this section of NCERT Class 6 Science Chapter 6 – Changes Around Us, you will learn about the changes that occur physically and chemically.

Physical change: You will learn that the type of change, where you can see the temporary change without any new substance being formed, is called a physical change. It also could be reversed. For example, the water turns from its liquid state to its gaseous state on evaporation. It then cools and changes to its liquid state.

Chemical change: This part of the chapter will also teach you about chemical changes. A chemical change is a change where a new substance is different properties is formed. These changes are irreversible. For example, the burning of wood.

  • Changes on the basis of energy

In this topic, you will understand how energy initiates a change. When such changes occur, energy is either evolved or absorbed. Class 6 Science Changes Around Us elaborates explicitly about endothermic changes and exothermic changes.

Exothermic change: In this Class 6 Science Changes Around Us, you will learn about the change that occurs during the release of heat energy. An example of exothermic change is the formation of snow in clouds. Even condensation is exothermic.

Endothermic changes: In this NCERT Solutions for Class 6th Science Chapter 6 – Changes Around Us, you will read about the change that occurs during the absorption of heat energy. For example, change of material from the state of solid to liquid.

  • Expansion and Contraction of materials

In this part, Class 6 Science Changes Around Us, you will learn in detail about the expansion and contraction of various materials. It teaches you about expansion in solids, liquids and gases. It also teaches you about the contraction of solids, liquids and gases.
