Just refer to the NCERT Solutions for Class 9 Chapter 2 and make learning easy for you.
Important Topics of NCERT Class 9 Science Solutions Chapter 2 – Is Matter Around us Pure?
The Chapter gives an introduction to the concept of substances and their constituting particles. Compounds and elements have also been discussed along with the definition of pure and impure substances.
Types of Mixtures
Major two types of mixtures have been explained in the Chapter. The mixtures with uniform compositions are known as homogeneous mixtures whereas those with a non-uniform composition are known as heterogeneous. Their properties have also been discussed in the chapter. Once you get accustomed to these concepts, you will be introduced to the different methodologies of mixture separation and the working behind them.
The phenomenon of scattering of a light beam on passing it through a colloid, known as the Tyndall Effect, has also been explained in the Chapter. The properties of frequency and density have also been discussed. Examples from daily life, like that of milk, have been taken in order to make the effect more relatable and easy to perceive.
Numerical based on Saturation, Concentration and Temperature
The Chapter also introduces numerical problems that use the concepts of solute, solvent, Solutions and other terms. The NCERT questions are based in both daily lives as well as a laboratory setting.
To make a saturated solution, 36 g of sodium chloride is dissolved in 100 g of water at 293 K. Find its concentration at this temperature.
Mass of Sodium Chloride (Solute)= 36 g
Mass of Water (Solvent)= 100 g
Therefore the mass of Solution = the mass of solute + the mass of solvent= 136 g
Therefore the concentration of the Solution = (mass of solute / mass of solvent) * 100= 26.47%
Process of Separation of Impurities
The Chapter also sheds light on the various processes of separation of impurities from a substance. These processes include crystallization, emulsification, centrifugation, evaporation and sublimation.
