## Important Topics in RS Aggarwal Class 11 Maths Solutions for Chapter 14 – Measurement of Angles

Sexagesimal System: It may also be called the English system. In this system an angle is measured in degrees, minutes and seconds. A complete rotation describes 360 degrees. In this system there are 90 equal parts in which a right angle is divided into and such part is called a degree; a degree is then divided into 60 equal parts and each such part is called a sexagesimal minute and then a minute is further subdivided into 60 equal parts, each of which is called a sexagesimal second. In short;

1. 1 right angle = 90 degrees
2. 1 degree = 60 minutes

iii.  1 minute = 60 seconds

Centesimal System: In this system, an angle is measured in grades, seconds and minutes. In this system a right angle is divided into 100 equal parts and each such part is called a grade, again a grade is divided into 100 equal parts and each such part is called a centesimal minute, and a minute is then subdivided into 100 equal parts, each of this is called a centesimal second. In short;

1. 1 right angle = 100 grades
2. 1 grade = 100 minutes

iii. 1 minute = 100 seconds

Circular System: in this system an angle is measured in radians. Angles are usually measured in a circular system in higher mathematics. In this system, a radian is considered to be the unit for the measurement of angles.

Radian: A radian is defined as an angle subtended at the centre of a circle by an arc whose length is similar to the radius.
