RS Aggarwal Class 11 Chapter 31 Solutions (Probability)

RS Aggarwal Solutions for Class 11 Chapter 31 is introduced to give you detailed information about Probability. In the earlier Classes, you studied the concept of Probability as a major of the uncertainty of different types of phenomena. RS Aggarwal Class 11 Maths Solutions for Class 11 Chapter 31 Probability covers all the different topics according to the latest exam standards. This chapter covers different topics like sample space, events, mutually exclusive events, Probability of an event, theorems of two or three events, etc.

The Chapter contains 2 exercises with around 23 questions in total. The questions range from beginner to advanced level and thus, the exercise Solutions are created in a way that you can easily adapt to them so as to match the pace of increasing complexity of problems. All the Solutions to the exercises are important for various types of entrance exams and also for the written CBSE board exam.

The answers for RS Aggarwal Class 11 Chapter 31 Probability are written by the team of experts in mathematics. All the experts hold a PhD degree and provide you with the detailed Solutions to all the questions. All these Solutions will meet demands that relate to different topics of the Chapter. You should understand each answer in-depth to perform in your final maths exam.

Topics Covered under RS Aggarwal Class 11 Chapter 31 Probability

In order to get the Probability of any event, you need to find the ratio of the total number of outcomes favourable to the event, to the total number of equally likely outcomes. This refers to the Classical Theory of Probability. In the earlier Classes, you learned how to find Probability on the basis of collected data and observations. This approach is referred to as the statistical approach of Probability.

These theories were unable to help in finding the Probability of an infinite number of outcomes. Thus, a Russian mathematician introduced another Probability theory, known as the axiomatic approach of Probability. In this chapter, you will learn about this type of Probability and to understand this theory, you need to understand:

  • Random Experiments
  • Sample space
  • Events, etc.

Random Experiments

In your day to day life, you perform different activities that have a result for sure no matter how many times you repeat them. Whereas, in the case of experimental activities, you are not sure of the outcome. For eg. If you toss a coin, you are not sure if you will get ahead or a tail. Such experiments are referred to as Random experiments.

You will know about these experiments in the Chapter in detail.

Outcomes and Sample Space

Any possible result of a random experiment is known as the outcome. To understand the sample space of the experiment, have a look at the example below.

For eg: You roll a die. The outcomes are 1,2,3,4,5,6. The set of outcomes- {1,2,3,4,5,6} refers to the sample space of the experiment.

Event

Any subset E of a sample space S is known as an event.

Check the below-listed example, to understand the concept of the event.

Consider an experiment of tossing a coin. Now, think of that you are interested in getting only one head outcome.

The sample space of tossing a coin= {HH, TT, HT, TH}

Only one head outcome= {HT, TH}

These two elements form an event= {HT, TH}

The occurrence of an Event

 To understand the occurrence of an event, you need to first understand an example as the Probability is all about the experiments and its possible outcomes.

For eg:

You roll a die and consider event ‘E’ as ‘a number less than 4’. If the number ‘1’ appears, you can call that it is the occurrence of an event. If a number greater or equal to 4  appears, then you say, that the event has not occurred.

Types of Events

  • Impossible and Sure Events
  • Simple event
  • Compound Event

You will study about these events in the Chapter.

Algebra of Events

Algebra of events refers to the action when you can combine two or more events.

    • Complimentary Event
    • The event ‘A or B’
    •  The event ‘A and B’

  • The event ‘A but not B’

Other Topics of the Chapter:

  • Mutually exclusive events
  • Exhaustive Events
  • Probability of an event
  • Probability of equally likely outcomes
  • Probability of the event ‘A or B’
  • Probability of event ‘not A’

All the topics of the Chapter are given in an easy language by the Instasolv experts. You won’t face any sort of issues in understanding any concept of the Chapter. Instasolv team is highly professional and works to render you the best services.

Exercise Wise Discussion of RS Aggarwal Class 11 Chapter 31 Probability
